What Have I Learned About Assessment That Will Help Me Assess Student Learning?

Learning Skills and Work Habits

Throughout this course I have found that a Childs learning skills and work habits are an important part of students learning.  It has been shown that a students learning skills and work habits should not be considered in the determination of ones grades but as a guiding force of their capabilities. Teachers are expected to work with their students to help them develop the proper learning skills and work habits. Teachers will assess learning skills and work habits for the bottom of the report card for parents to know what skills their child can improve upon, such as: responsibility, organization, independent work, collaboration, initiative and self-regulation.

Reporting Student Achievement

I have learned that the report card versions change in elementary from Grade 1 to 6 and Grades 7 to 8. The primary/junior grades students will reported on an A-D level and the intermediate students will receive a percentage grade. Report card grades are based on the students ability to meet the curriculum standards.

Students with Special Education Needs: Modifications, Accomodations, and Alternative Programs

Students who appear to have exceptionalities will require an IPRC meeting with the school team and the students parents in order to be placed on an IEP if it is required. An IEP will encompass all of the accommodations or modifications that they student will require in order t one successful to meet the curriculum expectations. What ever is written in the IEP must be followed by all teachers. All children learn differently and it is important to use differentiated instruction in your teaching so that you can reach all of your students.

I have found this course to be the most beneficial course of the semester. The learning and skills that I have acquired over the past 6 weeks has been very beneficial to me. I feel more prepared to be a teacher in the future and am looking forward to using what i've learned in this class.
