What Have I Learned About Assessment That Will Help Me Assess Student Learning?

Learning Skills and Work Habits

Throughout this course I have found that a Childs learning skills and work habits are an important part of students learning.  It has been shown that a students learning skills and work habits should not be considered in the determination of ones grades but as a guiding force of their capabilities. Teachers are expected to work with their students to help them develop the proper learning skills and work habits. Teachers will assess learning skills and work habits for the bottom of the report card for parents to know what skills their child can improve upon, such as: responsibility, organization, independent work, collaboration, initiative and self-regulation.

Reporting Student Achievement

I have learned that the report card versions change in elementary from Grade 1 to 6 and Grades 7 to 8. The primary/junior grades students will reported on an A-D level and the intermediate students will receive a percentage grade. Report card grades are based on the students ability to meet the curriculum standards.

Students with Special Education Needs: Modifications, Accomodations, and Alternative Programs

Students who appear to have exceptionalities will require an IPRC meeting with the school team and the students parents in order to be placed on an IEP if it is required. An IEP will encompass all of the accommodations or modifications that they student will require in order t one successful to meet the curriculum expectations. What ever is written in the IEP must be followed by all teachers. All children learn differently and it is important to use differentiated instruction in your teaching so that you can reach all of your students.

I have found this course to be the most beneficial course of the semester. The learning and skills that I have acquired over the past 6 weeks has been very beneficial to me. I feel more prepared to be a teacher in the future and am looking forward to using what i've learned in this class.

Copyright

Original work that is put onto the internet is protected by copyright laws in North America and many other countries around the world. Copyright notices are not required, the act of creating the source of work already enables the copyright. Therefore all information and media gathered from the internet is copyrighted and permission must be obtained to use it for personal use. Current students have access to the internet in their homes and at school which makes it easily accessible for them to download and use content from the internet for their school work and personal use on a daily basis. Teachers have to teach students what copyright is and how to properly cite their sources when using media from the internet. It is very important that students know how to cite their sources and refrain from plagiarism in their work.

Final

I am now DONE my Genius Hour Project! I cannot believe that I am now finished and that this class will be over! I spent a lot of time working on this project and to be honest... I enjoyed it! I was a little nervous and skeptical at the start. I find my self "tech savvy" but before this class I did not realize how many more resources and tools there are available to students and teachers on the web! The internet and digital community is always growing and I am pleased to have taken this class as it has taught me several new methods and resources to use when I enter the work force!

Now where do I go from here? Well I am going to continue to research and learn about new resources that are available to teachers! There are so many digital tools available and I think that if I can learn how to use just a few of them that I will be a successful teacher in the future!

Throughout this entire project, the thing that I learned most about my self is that i'm not as "digitally inclined" as I once believed. There are several websites and tools that I did not know how to use prior to this class. This class was an eye opening experience for me and I am so thankful to have been a part of it!

Until next time,

Ms. Morgan Hughes.

Setting the Stage

In preparing for my Ted Talk, I have spent a lot of time practicing my ASL and researching more about the elements that make up the language. I learned ASL several years ago and forgot the technical terms and formalities. I spent some time online researching and watching videos of people signing and it brought back a lot of the information that I was looking for. I am nervous to record my Ted Talk but I think I have all of the information I need to complete it successfully!

Finishing Up

This week I learned about what it takes to be a teacher in the digital age. There was a good amount of reading that I did that explored flipped/blended and online learning environments. I have heard of the time terms before but have never actually researched them. I found this video very useful in my understanding of flipped learning! Take a look!

Week 4

This week I had the opportunity to complete a lot of assignments that are required for my Genius Hour project. I was able to finish my movie trailer and I am quite proud of how it turned out as I have had no previous experience using iMovie. It took me quite a bit of time to figure out the program and how to complete the finished project. I was able to embed my trailer into my blog with no problems and I like the way that it looks on my blog.

I also spent some time adding my Genius Hour evaluation form to my blog and it is now embedded and ready to go. I was able to do some research on my topic and found out a lot about the history of ASL and the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. I have provided a little bit of the information that I acquired from my research and included it in a Popplet for easy viewing and a visual representation of the questions that most people would ask when inquiring about ASL.

From here on out, I have to do one more blog post to meet the requirements for the project and lastly I will have to do my TED talk. Next class we will learn more about the TED talk and what is required from it. I am looking forward to learning about the expectations of the TED talk and how to complete it.
